| In hardware stores in France you can find three types of heavy duty plugs and sockets rated for 400V, a voltage that makes sense for three-phase devices (see nos. 2 and 6). Also two single phase devices will withstand this voltage, but they are presumably used in a standard domestic 230V network (see also the adapter plug no. 4). Each of the items shown below are produced by the Legrand corporation. |

| 1, 5 | Socket and plug rated up to 400V, 20A (single phase). |
| 2, 6 | Socket and plug rated up to 400V, three-phase, 20A. Single phase 20A plugs (no.5) do not fit in three-phase 20A sockets. |
| 3, 7 | Socket and plug rated up to 400V, 32A (single phase). |
| 4 | Adapter plug which makes a 20A socket (no. 1) accessible for type E 16A plugs, the standard domestic type of plug in France. |
| 8 | Sockets and adapter plugs have to be equipped with child safely shutters according to the new (i.e. 2001) French regulations. |
